Madi

Team Lead

My name is Madi Denis and I am a senior at Kelowna Christian School. I have gone to KCS since preschool, and have had the pleasure to work with many students with special needs throughout the years. There has always been a place in my heart for kids with disabilities. I spent many hours working alongside education assistants to help and connect them. Through this, I received first-hand experience of the challenges that people with physical and sensory disabilities face on a daily basis. This connection has helped deepen my passion for creating accessible and inclusive environments for everyone.

I have taken on the role of team leader, and have been super excited to take on this leadership role. I work to keep the team on track, and also contact who needs to be contacted. I am always on top of taking notes at mentor meetings and furthering/developing our ideas.

Hannah

Hannah

Design Lead

My name is Hannah , I’m 17 years old, and I’m a student at Kelowna Christian School. I love art, soccer, and hanging out with my friends. I occasionally volunteer with Hands In Service, a non-profit organization that provides services for non-able-bodied people. I’ve met all kinds of people that have expanded my perspective on the world and day-to-day challenges others experience that I had never really thought about before. I would love to help make an impact on their lives.

I take charge of the design aspects of our project, ensuring that everything looks appealing. I also handle some of the logistics, reading over emails and written work, and figuring out details of our project.

Martine

Martine

Task Lead

Hi, my name is Martine and I am a grade 12 student at Kelowna Christian School. I am very organized and dedicated to everything I commit to. I am passionate about reducing inequalities in Kelowna because I have personal connections to those that are limited due to disabilities. I have many family members who live their life in powered wheelchairs or with prosthetics. I travelled with these family members and suddenly became very aware of the many challenges they faced. I saw the stress and level of planning that it would take to do simple tasks like going out to eat. I would love Kelowna to be a place that doesn’t bring these challenges to those that are disabled.

My role in this project is to keep the group on task and create realistic goals to achieve. I am good at keeping our ideas within reasonable limits and my organizational skills allow me to see that things are in order.

Erin

Erin

Task Lead

Hi, my name is Erin, and I am a graduate student at Kelowna Christian School. I have lived in Kelowna for my entire life and have also attended Kelowna Christian School since pre-school. Some of my interests include swimming, reading, and organizing. Personally, I am very passionate about this goal as I have a family connection to it. My sister became sick when she was very young and ended up losing her motor control and voice. Because of this, I have been aware since a young age of the inequalities that those with disabilities face. Often, my family had to adapt plans to accommodate inaccessibility issues in businesses or restaurants. Sometimes my parents would stay outside while my other sister and I would go into inaccessible places. I believe that every person no matter their physical or mental state should have equal access everywhere. I wanted to complete this project to help families like mine. By creating this website, we aim to help families in similar circumstances to mine.

My role in this team is to bring purpose to the project. Through my experiences, I bring a new understanding to the project which will help us design the information displayed on the website. I also really enjoy organization and this will help us stay on task and complete everything on time.

Eunsong

Eunsong

Tech Lead

Hello, my name is Eunsong and I will be graduating from KCS this upcoming 2022 year. Growing up alongside my group member Erin throughout school, I learned what life was like with a disability, I realized how difficult it could be to navigate through simple everyday outings. With the opportunity to use my passion for technology and development, it became clear to me that I wanted to join this project. I am taking the lead in the technological aspect of this project. With interests in web development and plans to major in computer science for my undergraduate studies, it became an interesting idea to join alongside my group members. With the opportunity to learn and gain new experiences, I hope to be able to implement my skills in this project alongside my group members.

I will be taking charge of the website design, advertising, and any other technological needs.
